The Outrunners are a Hackney-based running crew who all share a passion for running and doing good in their local area. They provide a sense of community and belonging, supporting each other to be the best they can be. Their charitable vision is to make Hackney equal – a place where everyone is included, and no one is left behind. Find out more about them from founder Tyler Williams Green (pictured above).
How has this past year or so been for you?
It’s been tough for the crew, but we have come together to support the local community! We have delivered more than 1,000 food parcels, run an online career mentoring event for 90 young people, started a mentoring programme, launched three youth running clubs and a Couch to 5K running group.
How has running helped your mental and physical health during the last 18 months (especially during lockdown)?
It’s been so important to the crew. We have done weekly challenges to get everyone moving and positive during these tricky times. We’ve kept connected using online Zoom classes during full lock down and used our time to make sure our local Hackney community is safe.
What does community mean to you?
Community is everything to the Outrunners! We run in the community, and we give back to the community. We want our community to feel supported and strive for more equal opportunities.
